Las Vegas, NV – March 17th - 20th there was something special going on in Las Vegas at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in the historic downtown district. Jeanette Lee and four other world class instructors held a three-day instructional seminar called the Black Widow Experience. The instructors were all top professionals in the billiard world. Jerry Briesath, possibly the top instructor available to the billiard world today! Mark Wilson, a former top professional and highly recognized teacher himself. George Breedlove, a top-ten pro tour player for many years, and Jeanette’s husband. Last, but in no way least, Helena Thornfeldt, a current top-ten ranked player on the WPBA Tour. That’s what I call a qualified group of instructors!

Billiard enthusiasts from all over the country showed up to let this group take their game to a new level. On The Wire’s Steve Lingelbach was fortunate enough to be one of the students for this event!

It started on Thursday night with a cocktail party so everyone could get to know one another. Then, each person received a video analysis to evaluate his or her own stroke, form and fundamentals. From day one, the instructors went out of their way to see that everyone got plenty of one-on -one instruction. Friday morning we started at 9am and it was time to go to work and gain some knowledge! Subjects covered were stroke, mechanics, aiming systems, grip, stance, bridge, and much more. We took a one-hour break for lunch and took a break for dinner at 5:30pm, after which it was optional to come back from 8pm - midnight. Every student and all the instructors were there till midnight, hammering home the fundamentals that Jerry Briesath believes is the foundation of one’s game. After 12 hours of pool on Friday, the group was back for more at 9am Saturday (although moving a bit slower)! Saturday’s subjects were position play, tangent lines, speed trade-off, bank shots, and much more! Even though people were tired, we put in another 12-hour day of pure billiard pleasure! Friday ended with a tournament of equal offense for prizes! Needless to say, the entire group was exhausted by Sunday. We did a little more instruction, had brunch, and Jeanette handed out personal awards. By now, as a group, we practically felt like family! It was a pretty amazing event!

To sum it up, I was really impressed with the tireless work ethic of Jeanette’s crew. They went the extra mile to make sure all students, including myself, went home feeling like we had just experienced something special. I just want to express my thanks to Jeanette and all the instructors for a special weekend experience, “See you next year, gang!”
