Movie Set In Philadelphia
Capitalizes On Hot Trend In
Women’s Professional Billiards

Women’s Pool Champion to Promote New Feature Film “9-Ball”, a film about a young woman’s challenge to become the Women’s World 9-Ball Champion.

The game of pool is quickly gaining worldwide popularity – that’s something Karen Corr, a top-ranked professional player of the Women’s Professional Billiards Association, has noticed. “People love to meet at their favorite poolroom, and play for fun. Or if they’re more serious, they join a league,” notes Corr.

“ After reading the screenplay for “9-Ball,” I was more eager than ever to be involved with this film”, Corr said. Tony Palma, the story’s creator, co-writer, director and producer, has penned an incredible screenplay that tells the exciting and dramatic story about a young woman, Gail, who loves pool and her determination to beat the odds and become a champion. Gail is a true example of an unwavering sports woman who keeps coming back to win, even when facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Gail Harris has the natural talent and determination to become the next Women’s World 9-Ball Champion if she can overcome some major obstacles. Vicky, a tough but tender lifelong family friend and pool hall owner, believes in Gail and wants to help her become a champion. Vicky also knows one big thing holding Gail back from becoming a champion is a member of Gail’s own family, Uncle Joey.

Childhood tragedy ripped Gail’s family apart and left her with nightmares and horrible memories. Her Uncle Joey was put in charge to raise young Gail. He saw her great natural talent and decided to use it for his own good. Instead of helping her become the professional player and champion she aspires to, he takes her to poolrooms, where he sets up the games. After Gail wins, Joey pockets most of the money for himself.

Will Gail escape the clutches of her abusive and manipulative uncle? Will she find the willpower to take on the best professional players high-stakes competition? This riveting drama is set in a close-knit blue-collar Philadelphia neighborhood and will have you hooked until the climactic ending.

Main Street Productions is happy to have top-ranked professional Karen Corr associated with this project. She, too, is excited about the movie, as she has said “9-Ball” is “a film that you want to see, and after you see it you want to go shoot pool.”

Western BCA Regional 9-Ball Tournament, $5000 Added Money

Lincoln City, OR – Acting president of the Western BCA, Sam Rabito, announced at the board meeting of Aug. 21 that the Western BCA will be taking advantage of the BCA Pool League’s Sanctioned Tournament Added Money Program (STAMP).

STAMP is designed to award promoters of state and regional sanctioned BCAPL events added money for their tournaments based on the number of BCAPL sanctioned players from the previous league year in their respective state or region. In the case of the Western BCA, the total sanctioned players for the 2004–05 league year was just under 3,000 players. Based on this, the BCAPL is giving a total of $3,000 to the Western BCA for added money to their state tournaments: $1,000 for the 9-ball event and $2,000 for the 8-ball event. This additional money will guarantee at least $5000 total added money for Western BCAs regional 9-ball tournament.

Mark Griffin, owner of the BCAPL, stated, “this program (STAMP) is offered so that every BCAPL sanctioned player has the opportunity to compete for added money in sanctioned state events. We feel the Western BCA and the BCAPL will continue to combine our marketing efforts to provide extra benefits for all our players.”
Along with added money, BCAPL is awarding the Western BCA two paid entries to the national 8-ball championships in Las Vegas in May 2006. The paid entries will go to the men’s and women’s Open singles 9-ball champions.

The BCAPL and the Western BCA have forged a solid and mutually beneficial relationship within the past year. Membership and tournament participation is growing, both nationally and regionally. The BCAPL has gone on record encouraging an open door policy and welcoming all suggestions, as is evident in some of the recent changes in tournament format. For more information about the recent policy changes, visit the BCAPL website at www.playbca.com.

Entry forms for the regional 9-ball tournament are available online at Western BCAs website, www.WesternBCA.org, and from your league operator. To help the secretary process the forms more quickly, the entry forms can be filled out online using your computer and then printed. With almost 3000 returning players, processing entry forms can be quite a chore, so complete the form online, if possible.

Thanks to the support of the BCA Pool League and the hard work of the Western BCA, we can all look forward to a great regional 9-ball tournament.
